my first rose
...
a long long time ago I orderd roses in the internet
I had already forgotten them completly, so I was suprised to get 2 weeks ago a big parcel.
One of the roses arrived!
As I opened the parcel I reallized that I need a really big pot-found one finally at manufactum.
today it was planting time for
Marie-Jeanne
I hope Marie will survive and Long Tom as well-was quite an investment!

Before and after a performance
...
The wishes of a costumedesigner and wardrobe ladies are sometimes very rural:
a good sink like this.
that the clothes end up in the right basket
that not too much black ends up on the white
that men shower more often!
But like I know from Nadine, the angel in the Singel:
she had to wait many years to get this sink and had to get completly wet from the garden tube she had to use before.
So, I can't complain!
And what I reallized after the 20th performance-I can't go on with my old fashioned cleaning and ecological stuff: Vanish does it faster!

Theater corners and structures
...
There is a certain structure in a theater: light and dark!
There is a structure in my work as well in my preparation.
The performance is black, white and fire.
If there is too much black on white, I get a crises!
If the Insiders don't use the fire-Prometheus didn't succeed.
If there is a Premiere-we mostly have a Buffet.
I liked the one from yesterday.

De Singel-keep the door closed
Preparation in the Singel-the international art centrum in Antwerp.
Big space, good staff and an angel from a wardrobe lady: Nadine.
There's art and architecture everywhere to see.
Nearly wanted to pick a Wim Rietveld chair-but I'm still not sure if it's an original. Joke-will check it out tomorrow in the basement!!!!
Japanese goodies
...
I didn't know that Düsseldorf has one of the biggest japanese communities outside Japan.
I went to the japanese supermarket and bought some things to make one of my first meals out of the new cooking book.
Finally also a good sharpening stone for my leather knife which is actually a sushi knife.
A wasabi grainer and a mortar to make black sesam oil.
Japanese pottery and other stuff I thrifted all over, inclusiv the worn shoes from the Brockenhaus in Zürich.
Again: A globalized world!
I'm back in Antwerp, no suitcase this time because it's our home play next week: De Singel.

Some Düsseldorf
...
Day 6 in Düsseldorf and I'm familiar with the laundromat in the japanese area.
Nice neighbourghood actually with good food and some japanese shops.
For the rest I'm happy with some new german books, but I will also not cry if we go back to Antwerp on Sunday.
...
And this will get the logo for the production on my working overall.
From the Feuerlöscher in my old house in Zürich.

Upcoming Düsseldorf
...
We're hading over for Düsseldorf.
Going by car makes it easier for me to take with some food-being abroad, allways difficulties with my stomache!
But Germany has also some other problems: no internet access in our theater and non in our accomodation-actually a student apartment looking like. Too small bed, but anyway not that much time to sleep-because there is also no washing machin in the Tanzhaus.
I really don't know who can concept such a house. They are only familiar with dance productions in underwear!!!
So. no photos yet-but soon.

my music for prometheus
...
My vision of the music for Prometheus.
The image, the texts and another feeling maybe for me as a costumedesigner.
The Tiger Lillies - a favourit that stays - Brecht/Weil from now.
Hercules & Love Affair - 80ies/early 90ies - New York - the feeling I had, going out in Zurich when the city still had another attitude, more rebellion and no lofts im kreis 4 und 5!

cookbooks
...
A huge collection of antique cookbooks in the thrift store in Zurich.
I spent hours to look at them. The illustrations, covers, advertisments and descriptions were amazing.

American vintage
...
I saw the postcard and had a strange feeling. Something was wrong about it. Later I reallized why-the not anymore existing Twin Towers!
...
The boy in a sailors uniform, the car crashed!
...
Went to several second hand shops in Brooklyn and Manhattan.
Was not at all interested in European clothes, more working clothes or 50ies stuff. Found some nice shops but most of them too expensive for me.
I took the silk water coloured 50ies dress and a 50ies skirt in an amazing fabric and colour. The white dots are like handpainted on it-silkscreen maybe!

Mauerhase
...
A movie about the rabbits on Potsdamer Platz in Berlin during the wall. In German, but the pictures talk anyway.

Perfecto fine&raw
...
Since a while I was looking for a perfect leather jacket.
It had to be small, fitting tight, smooth leather and this attitude of raw and sexy.
What else could be better then the classic Perfecto. The Jacket of Marlon Brando and James Dean, the classic style of the fifties.
And it's a trend! One day after I bought it in Brooklyn there was an article in the NYTimes about Schott. Lady Gaga has one as well.
...
To make the look perfect and just because I like the shape, I thrifted an old swedish leather holster.
I'm a girl, realized after taking the picture, that I put the holster on the wrong side of the belt. Not really handy to take the gun fast!
The chocolat is made in Brooklyn and cost a fortune: $9! Just bought it for the illustration.

Goodbye NYC
...
Before flying back home, I spent another morning in Manhattan.
A last check out from shops and places: Whole Food Market on Union Square, Santa Maria Novella on Lavayette St., Polaroid Shop on the Broadway, Crosby and Prince St.!
I like this city, I like the vibes and the different races, religions and coffees! I like the snow and the sun.
We arrived in Belgium and it was grey in grey.
